About Stephen Young & The Union

American roots music bible No Depression have called Stephen Young & The Union "inspiring" and a "manna from music heaven", the world-famous Daytrotter Session hosted Young for a solo session at their Davenport studio in Iowa, while Seattle's KEXP have handed the band drivetime airplay as Stephen Young & The Union launch their new set Eagle Fort Rumble to widespread critical acclaim both in the US and Europe.
The sophomore album from the Irish roots rockers is bringing to international audiences what Irish audiences have known since their debut record in 2011, Young & The Union are an international-quality Americana band.
SYTU have been heralded by Radio Nova as “the cream of the crop when it comes to Americana” in the same week as The Irish Daily Star claimed “There are few better in the genre than Young and The Union”, and now, finally, out is the album that gave us their Today FM Single of the Week, Duty Free 200, in October 2014.
Striking a fine balance between Country, Rock, Folk and Blues has seen the band carve a niche for themselves at home, all the while attracting interest from abroad. And in support of their new release, Young toured the US in October taking in famous music cities such as Austin, Boston, Dallas and Nashville.
With self-released debut album Wilderness Machine, the band found success in making the play-lists of RTE Radio One, BBC Ulster, numerous regional stations and, in the week of the album’s release, appearing on RTE’s The View.
Festival appearances at Knockanstockan, Vantastival, Helium, Le Cheile and Canalaphonic, along with the band’s near-constant nationwide touring has helped them earn a loyal fanbase, crossing typical demogragphics, challenging genre boundaries.
After co-headlining the Official Today FM Shave Or Dye event night in early 2013 with The Hot Sprockets in Dublin’s Workman’s Club, Young and Co decamped to rural Tipperary to begin tracking what would become Eagle Fort Rumble.
Buoyed by their MRU Award win for Best Alt-Country Act in late 2012, Stephen Young & The Union began the arduous, fractious recording of the album that nearly broke the band
Wrapping up recording with mixing sessions at Dublin Studio Hub under the excellent guidance of Larry Hogan in May 2015, the band released Eagle Fort Rumble to widespread critical acclaim - most notably in the US.
The band are currently in pre production on their third album.
