Our New Arrivals

Well a few weeks ago I said we had some news from camp SYTU...
We have two nuggets for you all this week!
Earlier in the New Year, following the release Eagle Fort Rumble, the album that almost finished this band, I made the tough decision that we would be moving forward without our former Producer and Lead Guitarist, Shayne Byrne.
It was not an easy decision for me to make. Shayne was a massively important part of this band both on stage and behind the scenes. He improved us a group. Our level of professionalism and preparation improved ten fold during Shayne's three or so years with us!
We shared many fun hours travelling from gig to gig in my old blue Micra at all hours of the morning, and we had a lot of good times!
But Eagle Fort Rumble left a lot of scars that just didn't seem to be healing - so here we are.
Both myself and the rest of the band wish Shayne the very best for the future and we look forward to hearing his imminent Sleeping Bears release due out this summer!
So, I would like to take this opportunity to wish Shayne well.... and welcome our new Lead Guitarist, Declan Moran!
Declan is a fantastic, young guitarist from the band Those Responsible.
I first saw Declan play about 3 or 4 years ago when he opened for the band as part of a duo. His performance that night caught my eye and I've seen how well he has progressed since then, turning into a very, very fine guitar player!
Speaking for everybody I can safely say we can't wait to start rehearsing, gigging and recording (we'll get to that now in a sec!) as soon as possible.
Funnily enough, Declan's not the first Moran in the Union.... Declan's older brother Andy played bass on most of the tracks on Wilderness Machine before Ciaran Lane joined to play on Coke & Rum and Fall Into Night. So it's also good to have Moran back in The Union.
So, on to the recording front;
The Union is about to start Pre Production on 2 albums!
First up is Bootleg Union, an album which will be both a collection of demos which have never before seen the light of day on any SYTU album and a batch of whole new songs, all of which will be recorded totally live back up in our old haunt - The Eagle's Nest.
In on that session will be Johnny on percussion and drums, Stevie D on bass, Kenny on keys, a returning John Sweeney on guitar and harmonica and our new lead guitarist, Declan Moran.
So once that session is boxed off in July, we'll be moving onto our next release, The Crossing.
I personally can't to start working on both albums, but The Crossing is a record essentially comprised of all the the best songs I've written in the last 3 years. Myself and Johnny have spoken about it as the "singles album". So not too much to live up to there eh?...
It's all go at Union HQ these days, and we can't wait to get back out on the road too an see some of you again in 2016!
Our next update will be from Pre Production in Cavan next month.
Til then, keep a good head and always carry a lightbulb!

Stephen.
